Women around the world suffer from domestic violence, including marital rape and assault, and given the highly sensitive nature of this issue, its scale is difficult to ascertain. In December 1999 the United Nations designated November 25th as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in order to raise awareness of the problem, which is why the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs is holding a panel lecture entitled "Domestic Violence in Lebanon".
