War comes to Damascus in revolt "turning point"
July 17, 2012

Syria deployed armored vehicles near central Damascus on Monday as troops battled rebels around the capital in what activists said could be a turning point in the uprising. Russia, meanwhile, slammed Western pressure for a UN Security Council resolution against Syria's regime, as a top defector warned that President Bashar al-Assad would not hesitate to use chemical weapons against his own people.

While we are occupied with the UN observers' mission to Syria, the Syrians have something else to deal with: How to topple the regime and how to stay alive. They know by now that diplomacy has failed and that the only way to get rid of Assad is to start supporting the rebels on the ground, not the opposition in Istanbul.
